Weekly Report #37 Resumed Writing

It has been 4 months since I properly started writing. During this time, there have been many things worth recording, but I just can't muster the energy to write. People tend to have inertia, and this inertia seems to be even stronger for me.

Starting something is the hardest part, and correspondingly, stopping is also quite difficult (hhh, a term I coined), but once you get over this hurdle, it can be as beautiful as the arrival of spring after the melting of snow.

I won't ramble too much; I still want to persist in recording my thoughts and life experiences. However, unlike before, this time I chose Medium as my initial platform instead of Xlog, but I will also update articles there.

I had a few not-so-great experiences with Xlog before, such as not being able to sync drafts across multiple devices, the control over the comments section, and the issue where clicking to publish an article would result in multiple duplicates being published. These frustrated me, but I didn't have the energy to provide feedback. Xlog is indeed a platform I really like.

Switching Writing Platforms#

This time I chose Medium, which has always been a platform I really enjoy. Although sometimes the articles here give me a clickbait vibe, this simple and elegant platform still captivates me. I don't want to boast about how great the experience is, as it feels like an easy way to get slapped in the face, but at this stage, I still feel that the Web2 experience is much better than Web3. Perhaps I've really been pua'd by regulation, haha.

The writing content will still focus on technical articles and lifestyle articles. The farewell song master once wrote this, which I think is worth reading multiple times:

People often ask me how I grew. Today, I want to share the simplest answer: I have a goal regarding technology. My goal is simple: to keep my blog updated. If there is a month without new articles on my blog, I get particularly anxious. I think about what I can research and then write a diary entry.
Of course, I gradually found that I often have time to research various things (no worries about having nothing to write), and I will also fail. Failure is not scary; what’s scary is giving up halfway without trying my best. I have also abandoned many things halfway and made many irresponsible statements, but I will never delete these bits and pieces from my blog.
There is a well-known theory in the security field: "You cannot trust all user input," but I firmly do not support this statement being applied to real life. I choose to believe rather than doubt. A life of suspicion can be exhausting if you are always thinking about how to guard against others.

Actually, I don't have much of my own thoughts. During the time I stopped updating, I mostly used Flomo for recording and daily reviews. I'm just someone who continuously absorbs information, filters it, and then retells it.

Just as I was writing this article, I found that Medium started prompting me that saving failed again, probably detecting some keywords or something... I gave up; I was indeed slapped in the face.

So I will return to writing in Typora. The current writing plan is to use Typora for writing, PicGo + Tencent Cloud COS for image storage, and then use Nutstore to back up articles (Nutstore has 1GB of upload traffic, which is definitely enough for plain text. I have always wanted to set up a NAS, but unfortunately, the network conditions at home are too poor).

Birdwatching at Lianhua Mountain#

Not the original image; the original was too large, and I was afraid of exceeding the CDN traffic limit, haha. These are all compressed versions from Moments, so there will be quite a bit of noise.

After not sleeping well on Friday night and with the air conditioning set too low, I woke up feeling extremely uncomfortable in the morning. So I took a day off and stayed at home, making little progress in Death Stranding.

Taking a day off did improve my mood, and my sleep quality also recovered. Early Saturday morning, around 6:20, while most workers were still dreaming, I was already on my way to Lianhua Mountain with my camera to look for little birds.

Forest birds are actually very hard to photograph because they generally hide in the dense trees on high mountains. Walking along the small paths in the mountains, the air is quite fresh, but at this time, it's just fresh air; the oxygen concentration is not very high (this is very simple biology knowledge because plants are respiring at night, haha).

But I still wanted to challenge myself to photograph forest birds. I had found some guides on Xiaohongshu in advance, which were mostly experience posts, but they couldn't guarantee that I would encounter the birds just right. I looked around Yangri Lake and only saw a few swans, so I continued deeper into the mountains.

In the shade of the trees, the sounds of chirping echoed above and below; only in the mountains can one truly appreciate the essence of this line written by Ouyang Xiu.

Hey, that one! Its scientific name is the spotted necked (sui) bulbul (mei). The color of its feathers is very similar to the branches, making it hard for me, who was already blurry-eyed from waking up early, to distinguish it for a long time.

But forest birds are really hard to find. I walked for a long time, clearly hearing many calls, but I just couldn't find them. Just as I was about to give up, I looked up and saw a red-eared bulbul (bei) perched on a branch, with little red dots right below its eyes. It was really beautiful, haha (but still not as pretty as the kingfisher /doge).

I am still considering buying a telescope. Relying solely on my eyes and camera for positioning can sometimes be quite difficult. A telescope has a wider field of view, making it easier to find birds, but I should wait until I go out and take more photos first.

Eating at Full House!#

After going to Full House on May 2nd, I went again to mooch a meal. This time I brought my Switch, camera, and drone (a bit too much stuff).

By the way, the Mario Party game on the Switch completely drove me and hh crazy, haha. Our luck was just too bad.

But no matter what, the cooking at Full House will not disappoint us. If you didn't say it was at Full House, you would really think it was at a restaurant!

Shot with z8 + 24120, not the original image; WeChat Moments has already compressed it once.

Of course, we can't forget the adorable Chong Chong:

And the sunset that wasn't late. It rained that day, and we listened to the sound of rain outside while playing 三国杀 and Switch games in the room. Near 7 PM, I looked out the window at the sky and found it unexpectedly blue, so I decisively went upstairs and ultimately did not miss the stunning sunset.
